          "De aanleg van de buizenpost startte in februari 1955 en was in mei dat jaar gereed. De buizenpost verbond het Uitleenbureau met de vier verdiepingen van het Magazijn, de Afdeling Postleenverkeer en het Fotografisch Laboratorium.  Via de buizenpost werden (literatuur)aanvragen naar de betreffende afdelingen gestuurd, waardoor bezoekers minder lang op hun aanvragen hoefden te wachten en efficienter gewerkt kon worden. De buizen naar en van het fotografisch laboratorium hadden een grotere diameter, waarmee groter formaat als tekeningen en fotocalques konden worden verstuurd."
