          "Dr. ir. C. van den Berg aanvaardde op 28 november 1962 in het openbaar het ambt van buitengewoon hoogleraar in de landhuishoudkunde, de bodemkunde en de cultuurtechniek, in de afdeling der Weg- en Waterbouwkunde, met een rede, getiteld ,,Cultuur en techniek\".\n\nCornelis van den Berg werd 19 november 1912 te Bergschenhoek geboren. Na het doorlopen van de middelbare school studeerde hij aan de Landbouwhogeschool te Wageningen voor landbouwkundig ingenieur, waarvoor hij in 1946 het diploma behaalde. \n\nIn 1952 promoveerde hij op een proefschrift, getiteld ,,De invloed van opgenomen zouten op de groei en produktie van landbouwgewassen op zoute gronden\". Zijn promotor was prof. dr. A. C. van Schuffelen. In 1945 trad hij in dienst bij het Ministerie van Landbouw, Visserij en Voedselvoorziening. Sedert 1955 is hij directeur van het Instituut voor Cultuurtechniek en Waterhuishouding te Wageningen, dat onder genoemd ministerie ressorteert. Voorts is hij sedert 1959 adviseur van de President-Directeur-Generaal van het “Office de la Mise en Valeur de la Vallée de la Medjerda\", Tunis. Hij is lid van enige commissies op het gebied van cultuurtechniek en waterzuivering. Van zijn hand verschenen verscheidene publikaties."
