          "Onderwijsgebouwen Voormalige gebouwen Polytechnische School. Voor de uitbreiding van de Polytechnische School aan de Oude Delft 95 was behalve in de buurpanden van het hoofdgebouw plaats aan de andere zijde van het bouwblok, aan de Westvest. Toen hier de stadswal werd afgegraven veranderde de achterkant van de stad in een voorkant: een statige singel met bomen. De twee neoclassicistische onderwijsgebouwen zijn een stedelijker versie van de villa's zoals die langs de singels in andere Hollandse steden verrezen. Westvest 9 werd gebouwd in opdracht van de gemeente en ontworpen door de gemeentearchitect. Westvest 7 is tien jaar later ontworpen door Eugen Gugel, een uit Duitsland afkomstige hoogleraar architectonische vormleer. In zijn streven naar een mooie eenheid in de gebouwen voor de Polytechnische School besloot hij Westvest 9 te kopiëren. \n\nWestvest 9 is in 1988 door Niels Bakema verbouwd tot Vrije Akademie, centrum voor de kunsten. Westvest 7 wordt nu gebruikt door het internationale wateropleidingsinstituut Unesco-IHE. \n\nOorspronkelijk waren beide gebouwen met elkaar verbonden met een tussenvleugel. Voor de opgetilde overkapping van de centrale hal zijn spanten en consoles gebruikt uit deze tussenvleugel. "
